You would think that you should rewrite your will after divorce. But, you should be proactive and ensure that your assets are in order well before receiving the divorce order.

Divorce will affect some provisions in the will, such as any gift of interest in property, and the appointment of your former spouse as executor or trustee. Also, the revocation of the conferring of a power of appointment. The beneficiary designations of RRSPs (Registered Retirement Savings Plan’s), life insurance policies, and pensions are not affected by separation or divorce. You should review your will and beneficiary designations often.
